Below is just a prime example of some of the BBB records on Arland Gave and a few of the names and FALSE addresses he had used as of the past year. It is obvious the man DOES NOT have a brain and certainly does not live up to any responsibility of using common sense. If so, why would anyone allow these forms of alerts and complaints go unsettled. At present, a few of these names have been used on invoices to people who soon found out that they had been scammed. These records are out there. Why do you people place yourself in harm's way by inviting this infantile to become part of your life by adding more frustration to what you most likely already have? People like this don't change for the better. They only get worse. Inviting them to place you as a target because you are too lazy to do your homework is what they are all about. A deal is offered, you jump. I see it all the time. Sadly, then I receive a letter or so from one or more of you asking, 'so, what can I do? What are my options here? Who will get me my wood or money back?

The Arland Gave's in this business count on you being 'Greedy for the Deal'. They count on you 'Going after the cheapest price' while seeing only one thing......THE DEAL'. The people getting burned by false names used as below are 'VICTIMS.' No one can help them, OR YOU once the 'Dirty Deed' has been done. You can't turn back time. Arland Gave is one who counts on that. He knows if you let him advance his program that 'NO ONE' can, and will touch him because the hammer of Justice will fall on you by not having ANY PROOF he was there, that you bought wood from someone, but you are not sure whom because there is no business by that name in existence, there is no address for that business, no name used as proper identification as to who you actually purchased wood from - and the list goes on. Look at the names below in this report. These are only a drop in the bucket. As for the phone numbers used, between throw-away phones, A CHANGE OF NUMBER FEE TO ALIANT, EAST-LINK AND SO ON, multiple Computer addresses WITH ACCESS TO MULTIPLE IP's by continually unhooking a router or computer to reset the Servers IP address to you, he has many IP addresses and can go on forever because there is: 'NO PROTECTION FOR YOU BY GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS, THERE IS NO JURISDICTIONAL PROCESS IN NOVA SCOTIA THAT CAN, AND WILL PROCEED TO STOP HIM, BECAUSE YOU, AS A 'CONSUMER', SCREWED THIS UP FROM THE GET GO BY NOT DOING YOUR HOMEWORK.'

Inside scoop is that he can be reached at (902) 441-8268. He does hire labourers but pays under table to avoid workers comp and taxes. HE REALLY NEEDS TO PAY FOR RAPE TO CANADIAN FORESTRY (Our-land not Arland) as my research noted that he is not a registered buyer as well. He uses a yellow cab, green box straight truck for delivering lengths and a white & red cab sterling dump to deliver firewood.

PLEASE NOTE, on Kijiji where he advertises all of the time, the numerous ads and numbers are the same; not to mention the BBB complaints on file. It is important to understand one of his faults is greed. in him evil mind he thinks Kijiji is his. 99% of the time ANY SCAMMER, HIM ESPECIALLY, will use multiple ads to show different services, different forms of wood, different pictures of wood piles from all over Canada and the US - and places further since he doesn't want to show his TRUE PLACE of BUSINESS, - (go in under Google Maps, go to Street View and type in the following address being 1324 Bissett Road in Cow Bay, Nova Scotia, B3G 1K7) and see where this individual conducts business from. He barricades himself in and you out because you are not privy to see where the wood comes from, see the junk he sells and see who really works for and with him. This is what a SCAMMER is and how they hide.

I wish I knew of your site before. I called BBB and I thought I did my
homework. He was calling himself Woody Wood from Jeddore.
You've seen the Kijiji ad I put on today to try and warn others. I know
Kijiji will end up pulling it, but there should be a feedback forum of some
sort on sellers.
He saw the ad too :) He retaliated by posting a free laptop ad and a free
guitar ad with my phone # so you can imagine the calls! Kijiji was quick to
pull them ( within 10 minutes) so he still has access to placing ads.
I have Facebooked him to my friends and they have shared so people will
know his truck all over.
My 2 cord of cut split ended up as 1.04 per Measurement Canada.

I'll consider posting more ads, but my son says it makes me no better than him. It just burns me that he repeats this.

I attached pictures of our "2 cord" he delivered. I took pictures as we started to pile and realized what we had, or should say hadn't. See all the crap in the wood. It looked like it was dug up from the bottom of the forest.

It measured out at 1.04. We paid him $440 and it is embarrassing to "be had" let alone now we won't have enough to do us this winter. We never bought wood before this.

The pictures on the right clearly show the junk that people as this call Winter Firewood. As for the right......it is much like the bottom one that clearly shows what was and was not delivered. was delivered as two cords. For three years now I have watched Arland's, and other ads on Kijiji, guaranteeing no Poplar or White Birch in wood delivered, while running me and others down who made some of the Black Poplar family available.

As for Arland Gave again, I will clearly post one of his MANY ads on here that he ran on Kijiji clearly stating there was no such thing as Black Poplar. People as this make their own rules and survive on their own bull, hoping to sway others by the lies they tell and print.

As for the picture below left, this is the crap he loads with an excavator and sells as quality wood under about 20 different NO NAME ADS ON KIJIJI.

Unfortunately for Jo, I do see White and Green Poplar in this mess of junk, along with dirt, mud and twig debris above that was delivered. Then there is the Swamp Wood - White Birch and a few pieces of softwood also sold in this load of trash. Sadly, this is what SCAMMERS ARE BEST AT. They screw you while smiling and professing to be so sincere and your best solution to problems. As for Measurement Canada, remember this, their concern IS NOT the quality of the wood, it is all about STACKED CORD COUNT being sold and delivered as a proper cord measuring out at 128 Cubic Feet.

More references made about Arland Gave. Come on now....can we be all wrong and he and his cohorts be the only ones right? I think not!

So, user BigAssSuperstar summed up the thread with a sarcastic reverse-psychology advice piece that bears repeating here:

Hey, vendors! If you want to develop a successful, long-term firewood company (that is, one-time customers and lots of profit for you), here's how:
- Advertise yourself under several different names. Undercut yourself if necessary.
- Be prepared to change your phone number. To avoid confusion when answering the phone, just answer "firewood".
- Always deliver in high-sided vehicles to prevent the mark from peeking inside to see if you've arrived with the right amount of wood
- Demand payment up front
- Heck, demand *extra* payment up front
- Having a letterhead is okay, but for heaven's sake, don't put an address on it! They can send process servers after you
- Never defend; always attack
- If someone is upset with your tactics, it is always THEIR FAULT. Customers, by nature, are CRAZY SCUMBAGS. Treat them as such.
- Don't be afraid of the BBB. They can't do anything. Besides, with all the names you'll be using, the listings won't matter anyway
- Make it clear that you won't debate CRAZY SCUMBAGS through phony outfits like the BBB; pretend like you'd rather deal with something rational and sane, like a court

- You won't have to move, because it's easier just not to give a real address or deal with people on the phone

- Deny, deny, deny

To sum up: Do your homework before buying firewood. Know what you're supposed to be buying. Don't fall for strong-arm tactics. If you want to complain, complain to the right people. Be aware of what the usual firewood scams are so you can watch out for them in advance. If your vendor won't give you a physical address and proper documentation, back away.If you still have a complaint, check out what the Province of Nova Scotia advises about complaints against firewood vendors.

UPDATED 1/21/2012:
While browsing Kijiji tonight, I saw a "Call Frank" firewood ad. "Frank" lists his phone number as 902-401-5198.

A Google search on that number turns up ADG Firewood Services, listed at 1305 Cooks Brook, Musquodoboit, NS B0N 1Y0. Better Business Bureau (BBB) gives ADG an "F" rating, and has an alert posted. "On at least one occasion, BBB sent mail to this company in an attempt to develop a report. The mail was returned by the Post Office; therefore a complete BBB report at this time is unavailable," says the BBB, which is soliciting tips from the public to help follow up on complaints filed over Frank's/Frankies/Franks Firewood/ADG.

Community news site The Laker has an article about Franks Firewood in which a couple warns about their experience.

And it looks like an article published last year here at YouSuckatKijiji.com has the same phone number with a BBB warning. So, take that for what it's worth.

This sounds like the man that sells wood from his house at the end of Bisset Rd by Rainbow Haven Beach. He advertises on telephone poles and normally has a few ads on kijiji.He will rip people off so long then change his name and phone number. Do not buy firewood unless it is stacked on the truck and you can see b4 you buy.

Sadly, this is one I really hate to report. It is apparent that the mindless antics of the persons below listed this ad on Kijiji without reason and truth. Sadly, Kijiji allows this kind of crap and attacks on people. PLEASE NOTE THE AD that was on KIJIJI and that was removed. As you can see, the mental stability of this individual is clearly an issue. For the record, I am Frank Rhyno and I HAVE NOT SOLD ANYONE wood without name, address and proper information. What is missing here is all of that and totally disguised as a fabrication from this uneducated individual who was ousted yesterday, February 15th/2012 in Frank Magazine issue #631, Page 8.

I got ripped of buying from him & don`t want my money back ,I just want to warn everyone here ,I went to Barrett firewood after & very happy with their wood "Frank rhino says popular is 21 and 24 Billions BTU's is a lier

The real btu is 15 million per cord check it out on the internet if you like"

that is why he is busy calling down everyone selling wood ,because that`s is the only way he can sell his over priced garbage firewood ,but in his picture it looks good all maple supposed to be all hard maple, but has garbage "stinky like sewer "poplar mixed in with white or other soft maples with a poor burning heat compared to hard maple (look up in internet ,you will see I tell the truth & he is a big liar) and there ain't nothing called vlack polular!

Another thing is there is no such thing as black poplar in Nova Scotia & if there was it has a low burning btu per cord.

Description

The Balsam Poplar can be found in forests ranging from Newfoundland and Nova Scotia in the East, all across

Canada

to British Columbia and the Yukon in the north and west, and south to North Dakota. It is a hardy tree and grows in most soil types though it prefers soil that is moist and sandy or gravelly such as the alluvial soils of river flats, sandbars and the shorelines of lakes and rivers. It can be found in pure stands, or with other species including balsam fir, white and black spruce, paper birch, black ash, red maple, the maple family in general, and trembling aspen. It is not very shade tolerant and will usually not grow in the under-story of other trees. Balsam Poplar’s have tear drop shaped leaves with very fine teeth that are dark green in the spring and summer and turn black in the fall. This unique colour change of its fall foliage from green to black gives the Balsam its other name, the Black Poplar. The trunk is smooth and grayish in colour and its wood is typically used for firewood, plywood and particleboard. It is a short-lived tree that grows rapidly for the first 40 years. The Balsam Poplar is one of the few large deciduous trees that can be used as ornamentals planted in parks and lawns in northern towns and villages. Leaf

The leaf is raindrop or very slightly heart-shaped with very fine teeth. The colour is dark green and in the fall, the leaf turns black.

Because of this colour change, the tree is also known as Black Poplar. The lower surface of the leaves is pale with a brownish, metallic luster and resinous.

Trunk and Bark:

The trunk is smooth and grayish in colour.

Uses:

It is used for plywood and particleboard, as well as for pulpwood.

Tree Form:

This tree grows rapidly for its first 40 years. It can reach heights of 30 meters (100 feet) with a one to two meter diameter trunk. The tree is considered to be short lived, however, a number of balsam poplars have lived up to 135 years.

Wood:

The wood varies from nearly white to grayish or reddish brown. It is light, soft and low in strength.

Range:

The balsam poplar is found from Newfoundland, Labrador and Nova Scotia, west and northwest to Alaska, Yukon and British Columbia and south to Pennsylvania and North Dakota.

In a clear and decisive motion, it is quite obvious that not only does the person fail to understand the concept of truth, he also fails to know what firewood is all about. SADLY, this is a man advertising and scamming people for years and STILL WANTING YOU TO TRUST HIM in his multiple of ads. However, he would surely want you to believe he is right, the University studies and information posted is wrong, and that he should be considered the utmost authority on firewood in general. I ask you, DOES THIS MAN AND THE MULTIPLES OF BUSINESS NAMES HE OPERATES UNDER DESERVE YOUR TRUST? All of the ads above and below are him in one way or another.
